I played this game until I got to the bossfight. Here are my thoughts:

I like the gameplay loop of playing, gaining XP, increasing your stats and retrying a lot! The turorial is nice. The gameplay feels a bit too chaotic and the character movement a bit too limited to feel like you can really get good at this game. I would really like to be able to dash/blink short distances to dodge.

What adds to the chaotic feeling I think is the colored 'lights' (not sure if this is the right word).
Like the large red/blue (depending on wave) edge around the screen and the green light around your player. I think if you tone those down and create a clear distinction between the dark background and the player/enemies/bullets (maybe with some bright outlines), that would improve visual clarity a lot

Apartfrom the health and double bullets, I didn't really understand what the those squares I could pick up while playing gave me.

When I reached the boss, it seemed like I could not hit it? The bullets went through and I saw no damage numbers. This discouraged me from trying again.

A few other thoughts:

- The music is really nice!

- The explosion animation doesn't really feel like an explosion to me

- I would really like to be able to pause mid-game

Looking forward to see where you will take this game!

Thank you so much for your feedback! It really helps me out. Before I respond, I would like to just clarify that this version of the game is extremely old and I’m rebuilding the game from the ground up, so this makes your feedback even more valuable.

Okay so firstly, what you say about it being chaotic is kind of the point. I want this game to be the most chaotic. constant-action, flashy game with something always going on. But I’ve always been confused as to why people say it’s chaotic because maybe they don’t understand it’s the point or there’s something I need to do to make the chaotic-ness stop taking away from the game maybe? I’m not sure. What you said about the glow though might be the solution, strong highlights and minimal glow might increase visual clarity while keeping it chaotic. I really want to know if you think it would decrease the chaotic-ness taking away from the game while still being chaotic.

With the movement, that’s something I’m working on in the rebuild of the game and what I’ve done is I’ve simply made it much more responsive and decreased the “slipperiness”. And with the character movement, if you mean that the area is small, I did that to make it feel really chaotic as well, so I don’t know what to do about that. With the dash, that won’t be something you start with, it’s going to be something you can acquire in the new version.

Those squares are all powerups, like the gun is damage and single bullet is increased accuracy for example. I’ll add a clearer tutorial in the new version.

When you say “boss”, there are two. If you mean wave 5, that may have been a bug? But if you mean wave 10, then that is intentional. Let me explain. The way it works is to be able to damage that boss, you need to max out the skill tree to unlock the ancient market, then from there you save up for the ancient bullets or ancient laser, and either one of those allow you to damage the final boss.

Also I’ve improved greatly on the explosion animation in the new version.

And a pause screen is going to be something I’ll add to the new version.

Thanks again for your feedback!

This game is super fun!

It's one of those experiences where you just kind of blindly shoot and either die a lot or win a lot lol. It all feels a bit random but I don't mind it, I think it's fun. The upgrades are cool, the music is banging, the sfx and effects in general are immersive... I'd say a job well done!

Only thing I'll touch on is the crashing, I had some errors popping up at first. But I restarted my computer and the exe worked okay, maybe the HTML will as well.

Thanks! I'll have a look into the crashing. This hasn't happened with any other people, so it may just be you.

Hi, so here I am played a bit of Your game.
There's not really much to complain about, chaos might be a bit too big and movement be too fast oor maybe that's a skill issue from me haha. But I only played the easy mode which was recommended and for me it was already hell. The bloom might be cranked up too much and this also generates another level of confusion added to how fast you move. Music and SFX i would say are all on point, art i think You will work on it aa bit either way so:).

Another problem is that I dont really know what im doing. The power ups You pick up feel random to me, I only understand that well triple shot gave me triple shot and heal gave me heal, but the rest .... no clue. I think You could maybe show it in tutorial or create some small encyclopedia where everything is explained if someone is interested.

Going back to the fast paced gameplay. I think You either move too fast or the map is too small. You move through the whole map in a second which really doesn't give enough space to play in my opinion so maybe that could get some changes: either sizes of sprites or speed (of the player at least).

I will play it more tomorrow and let You know what I think about the other part of the gameplay because judging from ancient skill in skill tree there is still some more progression to take a look at :)

Thank you so much! This feedback helps so much! I'll take all of your points into consideration. I think I'll make the map smaller, as that seems like the logical choice. Looking forward to what you think of the progression!

Great game! I loved how chaotic it became I don't see many games which get chaotic. Good Job!

Thanks! A lot of people have said that I need to tone down the chaos, but the whole point of the game is that it's fast-paced and chaotic, which I don't think some people realise.

Thanks again!

Nice game! Huge Scratch game vibes

(+1)

Thanks! This was actually made in something called PenguinMod, which is a mod of Scratch. I'm curious to know why it gave of Scratch vibes? Like was it a similar quality to most Scratch games? (Meaning bad quality) I'm aiming for this game to eventually be up to Steam game quality, so if there was something that felt bad quality can you please tell me? I'd really appreciate it. Also could you tell me if there was anything else in the game that you didn't like or anything I could improve on?

dk man, it just feels like something i;d see on scratch with the fonts and the graphics lol

Thanks, I'll keep working on those to make the game look as neat and professional as possible!

BTW, my game was not working on your computer maybe because you only installed the executable file. Try installing the other 2 files.

Huh that's weird, my game should only need the single exe to work. Are you sure you installed it properly?
