A new era - v2.0.0.0!
Ok everyone... it has been a long, long time. I'm sorry I haven't really been saying much!
But why? The one word everyone has in their head. Why have I been so... inactive? Well, to be totally honest, I haven't. I thought I was making progress on Slugger, turns out I was running in circles for the last NINE months and getting absolutely NOWHERE. It's mainly because of extreme engine limitations that prevent me from adding or changing new features because I need to keep optimising the game. And every single optimisation I made led to more problems, more optimisations. And by the end of these nine months, I'll just say it - I think I've actually gone backwards.
The game has become as slow as a Slug - the irony is what makes it even worse 😅. So unfortunately, I have had to come to a very frustrating decision because of this.
v1.5.0.0 is now abolished.
I'm sorry everyone for this horrible news.
BUT...
THIS IS NOT THE END OF SLUGGER!
Let me explain. I have decided to abolish v1.5.0.0 to form a new era of Slugger... v2.0.0.0!
Now, this update has no release date in sight and is going to be a massive, massive long-term project that could take over a year. But why is this such a big project? Well, most of this update will be focused on something no game developer wants to have to do.
Porting...
Yep, you heard me. In v2.0.0.0, I will be officially porting Slugger to a BRAND NEW engine, making the game much, much easier to develop. I will be porting Slugger to GameMaker Studio 2, which I am currently doing right now actually! The problem with this though is, my budget is kinda... low... so I can't really pay to export Slugger from GameMaker. So, if you could please consider donating a little bit of money to me, even just 50 cents, it would really help with the development of the game, increase my confidence and put the biggest smile on my face for the rest of the month. Trust me, it really would mean a lot.
Anyway, since in v2.0.0.0 I will have to completely re-code the game in GML, that will basically be the whole update. The only changes that should be noticeable from this update are (hopefully!) for it to be a lot less laggy, more streamlined, smoother, and just overall a much better feel.
So far in GML I have got the very fundamental parts of the game in like movement, shooting, and the very basis of the entity hierarchy and enemy spawning. This is currently all I know about what is currently happening with the game, so obviously I can't tell you anymore!
